Rule #1 for New Families
Please do not buy a uniform before visiting and deciding to join. You do not need a uniform to visit a meeting — regular school clothes and sneakers are perfect!
The "Class A" Field Uniform
When scouts wear their uniform, they feel a proud sense of belonging and accomplishment. Pack 496 keeps uniforming simple and flexible.
Cub Scouts wear their "Class A" button-up uniform to pack meetings and formal ceremonies, and casual Pack T-shirts ("Class B") for campouts and messy service projects.
- Lions (Kindergarten): Simple blue Lion graphic T-shirt.
- Tigers, Wolves, Bears (1st–3rd): Official navy blue Cub Scout shirt.
- Webelos & AOL (4th–5th): Official tan Scouts BSA shirt.
What Each Rank Wears
Lion Uniform
• Shirt: Official navy Lion short-sleeve T-shirt.
• Hat: Lion blue & yellow cap (optional).
• Bottoms: Clean dark jeans, shorts, or blue pants.
• No patches needed on the Lion T-shirt!
Tiger Uniform
• Shirt: Official navy blue short or long-sleeve.
• Neckerchief: Tiger Orange neckerchief.
• Slide: Tiger metal neckerchief slide.
• Cap: Tiger orange & blue hat (optional).
• Belt: Navy Cub Scout web belt for belt loops.
Wolf Uniform
• Shirt: Same navy blue shirt as Tiger.
• Neckerchief: Wolf Red neckerchief.
• Slide: Wolf metal neckerchief slide.
• Cap: Wolf red & navy hat.
• Belt: Navy Cub Scout belt for adventure loops.
Bear Uniform
• Shirt: Same navy blue shirt as Tiger/Wolf.
• Neckerchief: Bear Light Blue neckerchief.
• Slide: Bear metal neckerchief slide.
• Cap: Bear light blue hat.
• Belt: Navy Cub Scout belt for adventure loops.
Webelos Uniform
• Shirt: Official tan Scouts BSA shirt.
• Epaulets: Blue shoulder loops.
• Neckerchief: Webelos plaid neckerchief.
• Slide: Webelos metal slide.
• Colors: Webelos ribbon bar for activity pins.
Arrow of Light
• Shirt: Same tan shirt as Webelos.
• Neckerchief: Webelos/AOL neckerchief.
• Advancement: Arrow of Light rank patch.
• Seamlessly transitions to Scouts BSA troop in spring!
Required Patches for Pack 496
When buying your child's blue or tan shirt, you will only need these four basic insignia patches:
1. Council Patch
Chief Seattle Council shoulder patch (CSP) — sewn flush onto the top seam of the left sleeve.
2. Pack Numbers
Red unit numeral patches "4" "9" "6" — sewn directly below the Chief Seattle Council patch on the left sleeve.
3. World Crest
Purple circular World Crest Emblem — centered above the left front pocket.
4. American Flag
US Flag patch — comes pre-sewn from the Scout Shop on the right shoulder seam.

The staff are wonderful! Just tell them you are with Pack 496 (Newport Heights), and they will gather all correct patches and neckerchiefs for your child's grade in minutes.

How to Spend Less on Uniforms
Buy One Size Up
Kids grow fast! Buying a blue shirt a size or two larger allows it to easily last all 3 years from Tiger through Bear (1st to 3rd grade).
Official Pants are Optional
You don't need to purchase official BSA switchback pants. Clean dark blue jeans, navy shorts, or track pants are completely acceptable for our pack.
Pack 496 Uniform Closet
We keep a gently-used uniform donation closet where graduating families donate outgrown shirts and neckerchiefs. Ask our committee chair!
