Pack 496 operates under Scouting America's strict Youth Protection guidelines to guarantee the well-being of every scout.
100% Background Checked
Every registered adult leader undergoes criminal background verification prior to approval.
Mandatory YPT Certified
All leaders complete comprehensive Youth Protection Training, recertified every two years.
Strict Two-Deep Rule
No 1-on-1 adult contact. Minimum two registered leaders present at all meetings and outings.
Key Volunteer Roles
These are the volunteer parent leaders who keep Pack 496 organized and thriving.
Cubmaster
Leads the pack meetings, coordinates with den leaders on adventure curricula, presents awards, and brings the fun, energy, and spirit to our pack gatherings.
Committee Chair
Manages pack administration, facility bookings at Newport Heights Elementary, adult volunteer registrations, and coordinates with Newcastle Trails NPO.
Pack Treasurer
Manages pack dues, event budgets, supply purchases, and handles all confidential financial assistance requests for families in need.
Den Leaders (K–5)
Volunteer parent mentors who lead age-specific dens (Lions, Tigers, Wolves, Bears, Webelos, AOL) during hands-on breakout adventure projects.
Advancement Chair
Tracks completed adventure loops and pins in Scoutbook Plus and purchases badges and certificates so Scouts are recognized promptly at pack meetings.
Outdoor / Campout Coordinator
Coordinates family camping reservations at Camp Pigott/Edward, prepares campsite checklists, and coordinates safety logistics for park hikes.
